DREAM FARM COMMONS

MARGO MAJEWSKA

GENIUS LOCI

RESIDENCY JULY 8-AUGUST 1

Opening August 1, 4-7PM

Margo Majewskw will inhabit the main gallery space to undertake an investigative residency culminating in a site-specific multimedia installation that explores the spirit of place through light, materiality, ecology, and memory.Inspired by the remarkable regeneration of Big Basin Redwoods State Park following the 2020 Fire, the project will reflect on cycles of loss, resilience, and renewal.

Drawing from the forest's capacity to recover and transform, the installation will consider the landscape as a living archive—holding traces of memory, time, and our evolving relationship with the natural world. Light will serve as both material and metaphor, revealing shifting boundaries between interior and exterior, presence and absence, permanence and change.Through an interplay of light, shadow, sound, and material, Genius Loci will invite viewers into a contemplative environment that encourages attentive looking and deep listening.

The installation will create space to reflect on how landscapes shape our understanding of memory, belonging, resilience, and our connection to the living world.Rather than working toward a predetermined outcome, the residency will remain open to experimentation and site-led transformation. The installation will emerge through close observations, conversations, and research, allowing unpredictability itself to become a generative method.
