The Workshop of Care and Repair is an recurrent body of work and practice of Ann Schnake. The Workshop was live in Spring and summer 2026 and will return in 2027
This is a listening and making site for bodies and souls, a visualin stallationand making site, offering 1 hour sessions that begin with the premise that our needs are more common than we think; in the ferociously unstable demands of life as we know it, under this stage of capital, authoritarianism, techno-infiltration and ecologic degradation, sometimes care = neglect.
With our bodies holding the swirling poetics and metaphors of internal and external worlds, many parts within us need attention.
Ann Schnake is an artist, and nurse; for many years, she worked in a county
clinic and offered conventional medical treatment. Now she works with more
ethereal tools, making new body parts, talking with people and enacting care,
repair, attention and intention. This is not therapy or medicine
but old practices of ritual, listening and the work of our hands made
new, all called forth in a small room of strange sculptural pieces of
bodily suggestion. This version of the workshop embraces the bodily
sense of chaos, disruption and confusion that many of us are experiencing,
while still holding a safe space for care and attention.
Here are some of the questions central to the work: What has happened to us in
this moment? How do you feel? How does listening to our most tender
innards prepare us for the world? In 1 hour long free sessions in a
room of sculptural objects, she offers a visual site, deep listening,
small makings and ritual for forming new parts and possibility.
